Leicestershireis a landlockedcountyin theEnglishMidlands. It takes its name from theCity of Leicester, traditionally its administrative centre, although the City of Leicesterunitary authorityis today administered separately from the rest of Leicestershire. The county has a population of just under 1 million with over half the population living inLeicester's built-up area. The countyis also considered to be the birthplace offox huntingas it is known today.
