KwaZulu-Natal, a coastal South African province, is known for its beaches, mountains and savannah populated by big game. Referred to asKZNand known as "the garden province'',KwaZulu-Natalis located in the southeast of the country, enjoying a long shoreline beside theIndian Oceanand sharing borders with three other provinces and the countries of Mozambique, SwazilandandLesotho. Its capital isPietermaritzburgand its largest city isDurban. It is the 2nd most populous province in South Africa, with slightly fewer residents thanGauteng.

KwaZulu-Natal is also the birthplace of many notable figures in South Africa's history. Two areas in KwaZulu-Natal have been declaredUNESCOWorld Heritage Sites: theiSimangaliso Wetland Parkand theuKhahlamba Drakensberg Park.
